Lara said we should only have one entry. I think I will work on two characters over the summer and pick the one that turns out the best. No deadline to let me know if you are participating. Just the deadline for the entry photos to be turned in. But, I do like to know who all will be participating so I make sure I get all the photos and don't miss someone. I am excited to get started, but have hair rooting and the class starting plus outfit to make for the ME/I class. I'm happy there is so much interest. I think this will be so much fun and I can't wait to see all the entry photos.

I hope I will have time to participate and enter. I will definately add to the basket...maybe a kit. I'll see what I have.

Lorre!! I have been looking through A LOT of children's book trying to come up with the perfect one. This is so much fun though that like some other ladies I may have to do a few and then pick from them.

I have finally chosen my character - now I have to find the right kit lol.

I might not enter but I have a idea for a character! Wonder if kim has my idea how many of us will choose the same idea hahahaha

I've also wondered if there will be multiple eneries of the same character. I keep changing my mind one which one(s) to do! I plan to do 2 and enter my fav.

I know. I thought about that also, having same characters entered. I think it will be even more fun to see how unique we can be even with the same character. I'm doing the same thing and making two and picking my favorite. Still every time I watch a show or movie on television I am always thinking about making a character into a baby...lol Must be part of the addiction

Oh, I hope I can get my first baby done in time for this, this is the perfect contest for me! (I'm a huge science fiction/fantasy fan). Now, to get my baby done and then a costume! This would be fun!

I know I am anxious to get started too! But my ME/I baby is having a few problems... But, I'll have her done on time.. but wanted to get her done and start this.
I'll post something end of June or July to see who all is participating and see how everyone is doing for this contest. Meanwhile I check in to see if there are any questions or comments. Glad there are so many excited to do this also

I'm excited to do this... but I keep changing my mind about which kit to use and what characters to make. I have too many ideas! The one I really want to do probably won't get the popular "cute" vote, and the younger members may not even know who it is, which is OK because I still think it would be fun to do, but it is a rather expensive kit to experiment with. I also want to do one that I think will be one that other people will also do, which again is OK. This is about doing something fun, not getting votes! I just wish we could enter more than one. I think if people do the work and want to enter more than one, it should be allowed. JMO! Maybe we could do a second contest for more specific entries. Just a thought. This will be fun reguardless!

Say, cartoon characters for one category, sci-fi for another category, real life for another category, class fairy tales for another category, then we'd be allowed to enter once for each category if we wanted to? The winners of each category can then go head to head for the grand prize. To keep it all anonymous through the grand prize voting, when announcing the category winners, do not mention names just mention the entry number.

What do you all think?

It's okay with me. Or, we can do another contest through the winter? My only concern is the number of entries. So, if I there are 3 categories then we need 3 people to collect photos for specific category. Should I check with Lara? Should we do a vote?

I don't think there would be any confusion as to which category your "thing" should go in. You know what you modeled it after so you would know which category it would go in.

We can simply make sure there are at least three entries for each category, if there is a category or two without three in them, we can simply merge the two categories then. That's what I used to do when I ran extremely large(prize wise) contests in the games I used to play. Nobody ever had a problem with it. Also, if someone says their baby should be in one category and you feel it would work better in a different category, then you could move it over to the other category.

Personally, I would prefer someone who isn't entering the contest at all to be the one to receive the submissions and post the votes, etc.

I will check with Lara and then if okay with her then I will put up a vote for this. If we get volunteers to take the photos, that's great, but I thought I mentioned it before if anyone wanted to volunteer for it and no response... can't remember. But actually I guess I don't see the harm in it. But if you think it is unethical then we will need volunteers.

I would like to know if everybody entering the contest would like to see 3 to 4 different categories as suggested. Then those winners go up against each other for the grand prize.
Also, I am looking for a few volunteers to take in the photos and arrange the voting for each category.

Original post on page 1 has been modified with the final categories listed, to whom to send your entries to for each category, and also lists the panel of judges for the final round. (although I am still waiting to hear back regarding a fifth judge)

Looks great, Lorrie! Just so you know, if people want to email me their entries when its time, I don't have a problem having my email address posted. It's just a bit easier for me and at the same time, people won't have to use a public photo storage place like photobucket to host their pictures on just to send them to me.

Awesome! I'm getting even more excited! It'd be awesome if I could fit in more than one entry, but I think I'll just stick with my one.

Strangely, I had an idea in mind but since my bad experience on eBay with the kit I wanted for that idea I've changed my mind on what I want to do for this contest. I'm not sure why, because I could easily choose a different kit for my original idea, but I just don't feel like doing that one anymore! Now I'm excited about my new idea so it's all good.

I don't mind if the entries come to my email address too Lorrie.

Okay thank you Rebecca. I've started my character and this is a bit trickier than I realized...lol But still fun! :)

I was reading through all the posts and noticed that several people were inquiring about using non tradional colors for their creations. I see that someone mentioned my name for advice~ unless there is another misty on the board? ~ anyway... I have done babies that are non - standard colors. And the concept is the same... very similar to creating a AA baby. You are going to want to take time building layers... light very light. Say is you are doing a dark blue... what I would suggest is building a dark flesh tone first~ and then work on layers of the blue you are seeking. Without the flesh layer as a base you are going to have a hard time achiving the realistic blue tone you are seeking. If that makes sense. If you use so many layers to create your blue tone it is going to look more artifical opposed to realistic. Hope this makes sense~ if anyone has questions let me know ~ Hoping I can come up with my idea soon..... I worked on my ME baby and that was my main focus... now I must change my brainstorm~ I had an awesome Idea... but it involved several babies.... so now I, thinking I am not going to be able to get that concept done in time. So back to the drawing board for me :)

How many judges do you have?

I am still waiting to afford all the rest of my supplies (gonna get my oven soon! yay!! ) so I can't do any painting or actual reborning yet, but I have been working on my doll's costume, which is getting close to being complete. I can't wait to get started on the reborning...but I need to have a couple "test" babies before I work on one for a fantasy contest!

Lorrie, I am not going to be able to get an entry done for this due to time constraints here I now have lessons going in my own home, plus packing to move at an unknown date. If you like I would be happy to assist in judging the comp.

BTW my package for prize basket will be in post tomorrow.

I've started my 1st entry and am hoping I can get 2 finished in time. One is a more realistic goal though. I hope it turns out the way I picture it in my mind!

I emailed Cindy Musgrove and she came back with a yes for judging. Thank makes 5 judges.

Since there are 5 entries that will be going up in the final round, I am wondering if we need two more. Lyn has offered and so that would mean just one more to make 7 for an odd number of judges.

If you cannot get the 7th, and you want to keep an odd number then I can step back down again, just keep me posted either way, I don't mind.

HI Lyn... I am going to try to find a 7th just because there will be 5 finalist. I'll keep everyone posted.

Stephanie Sullivan has accepted so that makes our 7th judge. All judges are listed in the first post of this thread. We have 5 people to collect and organize the photos for each category. Still collecting for the prize basket, but we have plenty of time. Just need to know what photos each entry needs to send. 1) full body shot 2) close up head shot Should we have a 3rd photo? If so, should it be a photo of their choice?

I like the idea of having a third "our choice" picture, this is a character contest...I'm sure it'd be fun to have an extra picture to do some posing with props or something...

The third Picture sounds good. I've got a character in mind, and would be entering. Hey got a question about someone I've had in mind for awhile.

A lot of the contests have 4 or 5... close up of face, hands and feet, full body, rooting/painting of head, and presentation, which would be the fun one for the character. I like to be able to see clear shots of the work as well! I will be glad to donate a prize and I am hoping to be able to participate. We are moving in 2 or 3 weeks and renovating the house, so I haven't worked much on my babies since Apr. or May..... I didn't read all 7 pages of posts, but we don't have to make the clothes do we????

You don't have to make the clothes yourself. The painting, rooting and any sculpting needs to be your own work.

What if the character you are doing doesn't have hair, or it's so odd that it requires a wig, or is bald? Is that okay? (I'm not asking for myself, but the question crossed my mind since you said that rooting was one of the things judging will be based on...what if the dolly isn't rooted?)

It is okay. Just that any rooting... any added sculpting... any painting... should be work of the contestant. My character doesn't have hair....yay...lol
