Spring/Mother's Day Baby Swap

Reborn Swap Rules

This particular swap coordinator is Karen with SharonR as co-coordinator.

Signups begin now and end on January 6, 2012 at noon central time. To find the current central time go to http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=64

There will be a few check points along the way. Anybody who fails to submit information requested at each check point, will be removed from the swap. This is to ensure that everybody who signed up stays on task and will be able to ship their babies out on time. If anybody is removed from the swap by the coordinators for any reason, contingencies will be put into place to ensure their original recipients will get their baby on time.

We realize that life happens and things occur. If at any point during the swap, you have an emergency, contact me by email or phone as soon as possible so we can be aware of any problems that may arise as a result and take steps, if necessary, to assist you in getting your baby delivered on time.

By joining this swap, you acknowledge that you may not get the reborn of your choice or by the reborner of your choice. You also agree not to put the baby you receive in the swap on eBay or any other source that would profit you financially for the reborn you receive. You may, however, give it away or donate it to a charity of your choice if you simply cannot bond with the baby.

You also agree to do the very best you can in making the baby the best you possibly can. Everybody who joins the swap must include two photos of a current baby they've completed recently. One of the full baby, and one close up of the hair/head whether painted, rooted or left bald.

You also acknowledge that not everybody is on the same skill level and you may get a baby you deem not as good as yours. Every step will be made to match skill levels as closely as possible.

This swap is about the baby, not the layette. Please include one outfit you ship the baby in and one extra outfit, birth certificate, and blanket only and any CoA's if the baby you make has one. It is fine to include magnetic pacifiers, baby bottles, or hairbows to match the outfits you send. An outfit may or may not include jewelry.

I realize this is probably the strictest swap you've ever signed up for but it is with great care and concern that everybody who participates enjoys the process from creating a baby to receiving a baby.

All babies must be shipped between April 27th and May 4th 2012. You MUST send me via email only the tracking number of the package you send.

You must post a public thank you in the forum Cozy lounge when you receive your baby. Box opening photos is a plus. If you submit box opening photos to the forum, your name will be entered into a raffle with a great prize package, TBD, but will include a reborn kit.

Check points are as follows:
*Sign ups begin December 9, 2011 and end January 6, 2012 at noon central time
*First check point February 3rd-kit choice
*Second check point March 2nd-first WIP photos
*Third check point March 30th-second WIP photos(failure to submit at this point will result in removal)
*Final check point April 20th-Completed baby pictures
*Shipping starts April 27 and ends May 4th-you MUST email tracking information to me.

I'm curious...what is the reason for needing to submit a recent close up of a baby we've recently done?

Barbara, so I know the current skill level. We all grow as artists.

So we're matched more by skill level than proximity or allergy concerns???

I am sure everything is taken into consideration. Maybe instead of submitting pictures the artist can say weather she is beginner, intermediate or advanced.

But someone might under estimate (or over estimate) their abilities. Seeing the pictures would be easier to match up, I would think.

To me that would be a little more comfortable...in my eyes, the pix seem like a judging and I don't know about the other ladies, but I'd be afraid to be found lacking.....

No there are many points of consideration. Others are written in the question and answer section.

Maybe the cordinators can just look through pasts pics of participants work and try to do it that way, so people dont feel so judged by joining.......just a thought, i am thinking of joining this one.

I'm seriously considering this one...it was so fun seeing all the Christmas swap box openings. I'm just a chicken that I'll get a baby I can't mesh with...

I have no issues with submitting pictures of my previous works, if I do enter.

Kym I would imagine, anyone who has defaulted on ANY past swap would not be allowed to sign up. Also if anyone on here knows of any dafaulters from other forums, they should notify Karen and Sharon (or whoever ihn future swaps) so that they can take precautions to prevent what happened with Amanda. Had I known of her track record there is no way I would have done the trade with her to root my head in exchange for sewing. I know it is not nice to shame/name but there are times where we really do need to know of such things so that we don't get caught out and find ourselves losing a lot of moeny in the process (be it cash, kit part or whatever).

Okay, I'll let you know my personal view on this but others may see it differently. You've been saying for weeks that you are nearly there with getting your supplies to get back into reborning. My main concern is not your skill at reborning, but rather your ability to purchase a kit and all that goes with it and mail it out in the time frame needed. Sign ups go for a month so if you get your supplies in and you can start reborning again, you can always get far enough to show something. What supplies are you still waiting to get? You can PM me if you are uncomfortable talking about this here.

I should think that between now and January 6th you should be able to get a few babies painted and possibly one rooted? Maybe that would be enough to show your current skill set, even if they don't have bodies?

Karen! I am in then. I will email you soon. Do we need to buy the kit before Feb 3rd?

Linda, here at REAL all skill levels are welcome. I'm glad you got what you need and of course you can get a baby painted by January 6th. Painting is the easy part..rooting is the hard part, baby doesn't need to be on a body, just show me the parts. I seldom ever have a body before I start painting. I would love for you to join the swap.

Kym, ultimately I would love for the kit to be purchased by February 3rd, but I believe that check point is just the decision on what kit you are doing. Its simply to keep people on task, especially me!

I would hate to see anyone run around like chooks with their heads cut off like Lyn and I did for the Xmas swap! Luckily we both ended up with beautiful babies in the end though

I think that's the idea with giving your dream baby list, so if we create a baby from our swap partners wishlist we have more chance of bonding with our babies straight away

Why not just do it by the price of the sculpt and if it is a LE or BB? Intentions are good but some may be offended by by submitting a photo and also some may not have a really good camera to. I'm not going to be in the swap though, just wanted to give my oppinion.

It basically to cover ourselves and to prove what we are capable of doing so someone can't be careless with their dolls when swapping and working hard on dolls they make for profit. Unfortunately there are people who do this and its not fair to those who do their best. No one cares about your skill levels just efforts.

Exactly. That is the reason I'm asking for the photos. I'm not going to be matching people up by their photos. The photos are to show ME what you normally do as a reborner and anything less well...we'll cross that road if we need to but hopefully we won't. Its just insurance, that's all. If anybody is offended by submitting photos of their work, they don't have to participate in this swap. Its just precautionary.

Karen I was about to say the same thing. Lol. Not to be mean, but if people can't follow the rules maybe its not the best idea they participate. There are too many complications with swaps and there wouldn't be rules if there weren't things we try to prevent from past swaps. This should be enjoyable for everyone but there are some people who spoil it for the rest which is why it has to be so strict.

I am so glad I get to be in on this one!!! It has been exceptionally fun to do the private swap and I know this one will be a ball as well!!! I can hardly wait. The hardest part was narrowing down my favorite kits! LOL I have so many!!!!

I'm teetering on the fence with this one, and I think I'm gonna give in and join...maybe. I think one of the questions should be: do you want your baby to have a character costume...if I join, I'm gonna want to make a character costume for my person's baby (I'd send a normal baby outfit too), but I wouldn't want to do something they didn't want, some people don't like character babies.

That's very true, Rachel, but those types of things should be posted in the dislikes area of the questionnaire.

True. Someone can say "NO character baby" if they don't want one or, "I'd love a [for example] Sleeping Beauty baby/costume"

and if you're going to include a normal baby outfit too then I don't think anyone would mind, but as Karen said, they can always put that in the dislikes section

Even if you got me, so long as bubs was painted in such a way as being able to dress it as either costume or normal then it wouldn't bother me as I could then just dress it normal after the reveal photos. We all enter the swas knowing we accet what our artnr offers us, and whoever receives you knows they will get a costume in the layette as that is your style of work. We supply 2 outfits, one they are wearing plus one extra.

I have 3 weeks off work over the xmas holidays but then I will probably only work 3 days a week until March so will have lots of time for reborning yay!!!

Yes, I think you said that character babies weren't your thing about my Jack Sparrow baby. Admittedly, he can't be a "normal" baby because he as the dread lock wig. But, most of my character babies will be "normal" babies with costumes. Still, I wouldn't want to put the effort into a costume if the person receiving it didn't really want it. Does that make sense? I'd want to make sure that the person getting my baby was as happy as possible getting one of mine.

I am just saying that if you can't take a good photo or if you do a baby and it is a limited edition and cost $109.00 you don't expect to get a baby that someone paid $34.99 for, so that is the only point I was making. I do think that it is a good idea to keep the price range equal.

Rebecca that is why we have to nominate under $75 category or over $75 category and over will not be paired with an under person and vice versa.

I understand that Karen is trying to make this fair and not have anyone come away with bad feelings...I agree with that wholeheartedly and thank her for that!!...but I think that Sarah Beth's idea makes me feel a little more comfortable...
