| My girl Peanut has been feeling poorly for the past couple of weeks, nothing specific just not quite herself, she's getting up there in years (17 in May) so I just put it down to winter and getting older but yesterday she wouldn't eat! She's a chow hound so KNEW something was WRONG! Took her to the vet and she has kidney failure! She's on IV's to try to "jump start" her kidneys and flush out some of the toxins. She wouldn't eat for them but when I went to visit today she ate a small can of food and is much "brighter" Prognosis for long term is not good (2 weeks to 2 years) but I will take every minute I can, as long as she's not in pain or suffering. This photo was taken of her today with me feeding her. She is so very much loved . | |

| Peanut is home from the vet but not doing well at all. She's happy to be home but not eating or drinking hardly anything. Totally refuses the kidney diet so giving her bites of chicken. I don't think she's going to be with us much longer so am just cuddeling and telling her how loved she is. Thanks for your kindness. Peg | |

| oh I feel for you, my son is a vet tech, graduating this year from Veterinary school, he said to buy pedialyte unflavored and giver her about half a cup 3 or 4 times a day, that will keep her hydrated and it will stimulate her kidneys and is safe and gentle. the Vet should had suggested that, he said for food buy chicken breast and boiled it in plain water and boil some white rice until is soft and offer her that for meals until she is feeling up to her regular diet, sending lots of prayers your way.. hugs, Carmen in nj | |

| I hope she getting to doing better. She is so cute. We have a little guy that looks just like her. His name is Max and he is always on my lap. Max is only about 18 months old. But I hate to think of the day when he gets older. Growing up we had a 1/2 dachshund 1/2 beagle mix. We got her when I was about 14 and she lived till after our youngest son was born. I figured she was up around 20 to 21 years old. Dachshunds are such sweet babies. Here is a picture of Max. He is spoiled. Cheri | |

| Peggy my heart aches for you! I been there. I had to put my Honeybear down afew years ago (hence the name:Honeybears reborn nursery) It broke my heart and I still haven't gotten over it. She wouldn't eat anything either except rotisserie chicken from the deli. She liked the lemon chicken better than the regular. I liked the regular, so we ate lemon chicken. Whatever you can get her to eat and keep down, go with it. I hope she gets better. It's so hard to put them down. It doesn't matter how they go, when you get a dog (or cat or horse) you're just setting yourself up. Cuz you know its gonna end bad! I did get another dog. I have 2 now, and a bird. I might outlive my bird, but I know I have heartache coming because of my retarded dog. Love and spoil Peanut all you can!

| Ladies you are the greatest! Hubby on his way to get Pedilyte (thanks you Carmen!) Oh Cheri she does look like Peanut when she was a puppy! That's how she got her name, she put her paws up for me to pick her up and I said awww you look like a little red Peanut! Well she's turning her nose up at the chicken today! I ate a ham sandwitch and gave her bites of it, mostly the bread (I know baaaaaaad cuz of the salt) but more the bread and she ate that fine. Okay now Peanut I love you to pieces but I don't think I can bring myself to eat dog food sandwitch just to show you it's yummy! , tuna, and roast beef I can handle! Oh Keli, wouldn't it be great if the lived as long as birds! But as you say we all know that we will be lucky to have them for 17 years! She's resting quietly now and letting me catch up on a few things. You have no idea how much I appreciate your advise, support and general caring Peg | |
