| I'm about to start my first attempt at rooting and am curious to hear which area of the head you root first. I've heard pros and cons for starting either at the front or at the back of the head, and would love to hear your personal experience and opinions. Thanks, as always! | |

| When I first started rooting, I started at the back of the head and completed the section that included the swirl. Now I start at the front over the ears and work my way up one side and the other alternating between sides and then continue to work towards the back of the head. Jenny is right that we have all found what works best for us, but practicing on the back of the head first is a great place to begin. | |

| Thanks for your input Pia, I think you're right on both counts. I'm really glad I asked because Jenny's point about having the "beginners holes" in the back vs. the front is a good one! | |

| I start at the back. I really should consider starting on the top though. I tend to root thicker when I start for some reason. Since hair is thicker on the top of a baby's head, maybe I should do that first. | |

| Just an update - I'm SO glad I took everyone's advice and started at the back of the head! This being my first time rooting, it was also my first time getting the black marks from not cleaning my needle beforehand (oops), so luckily the marks are at the nape of the neck and not on the forehead. Thanks again to everyone for the advice. | |
