| I started to say we lost my father in law today ... but I don't think that sounds right. While I do feel an immense sense of loss ... I also know what a blessing it is that he's moved beyond the pain the cancer was causing. He went peacefully in his sleep and there is comfort in that for sure. But my heart aches so badly. We've been under so much stress for months now and I thought I would feel a sense of relief that it's over ... but it just hurts. I want to thank everyone for their patience as I flubbed deadlines ... forgot to send emails ... and generally just floundered around at times for the last 3-4 months. Wish I could with confidence say it's all going to get back to normal really quickly ... but I'm pretty sure that's wishful thinking. So I ask that you bear with me a little longer. Please know that I'm never bothered by helpful reminders that I've forgotten something important. Please also understand how hard it is sometimes for me to ask for help, so if I do ask, it's really needed. I would love thoughts and prayers. I know it's a given with this group of ladies because you all are such special, amazing, talented women. | |

| Thank you Lara and Denise.
Things are finally easing up ... aside from the weather, that is.
We have my mother in law moved into the memory care unit of an assisted living facility and she seems to be settling in better than we thought. The first day there she was introducing herself as someone new to a lot of people. One other lady that sat next to her at the music concert laughed when she told her that she was sorry but she wouldn't remember her name tomorrow. The lady said not to worry, she wouldn't remember either. They both smiled and laughed.
It's been a very strange phase ... the weaker/sicker my father in law got, the "better" my mother in law got. Her constant confusion seemed to ease up ... and she actually appears to be remembering and understanding more.
Maybe things will be more normal for us soon. | |
