| Lola is a sweet little 2 lb. yorky. She is 3 1/2 years old and the boss in our house. We adore her. She is our little diva. Hugs, Diane | |

LOL.... can you give me advise? Never had a house dog before and I could use any hints and tips! Binki, my yorkie, is almost 15 weeks now. I have bathed her but was wondering when I should take her to be groomed? Is she too young still? HUGS

| I groom Lola myself...but I know that the younger you can get the pup going to a groomer...the easier it is to train them for grooming. Just make sure that Binki has had all the proper innocultations, for her protection and others also. If she has not had all of her puppy shots I would advise just bathing, trimming and nail clips at home until she gets just a bit older. Hope this is helpful. Put a picture of your fuzzy baby Binki up for us to see. I would love to see her. Hugs, Diane | |

Hugs, Diane Thanks Diane! I have bathed her and she is very good with it but.... she will not let me do her nails! She has had all her shots, finishing up last week! Vet says she is now legal, lol! I have her 10 week pic on.... http://www.realreborn.com/t4836-my-new-little-baby-girl HUGS

| Donna, you have to handle her paws at other times so she gets used to having her paws handled. I made sure I did that with both my dogs because I thought I'd be clipping their nails myself anyway but turns out, I get too nervous anyway so I still take them to the vet and have it done for $7 each. They do great there. | |

Wow! What vet do you use? I have taken Binki 2 times to get hers done and my vet charges $13 !!! Hubby says I just had to get a high maintenance baby! Lol

| Karen is absolutely right about needing to handle their feet etc to train them for nail clipping.
I have had a lot of dogs over the years and some just held out their paws and would sit still, others would have to be papoosed boarded or if they were big held down by giant big young men! LOL
Chauncey was the worst. Chauncey is our son's 110 lb wonderful loving Pit Bull. Patrick attended his birth, helped in the resuscitation of him (he was #12 pup of 13 and didn't want to breathe) and was the first human to hold him obviously etc. He came to our house when he was only 4 weeks old. So we know he was never abused in anyway. BUT he was always terrified if anyone touched his feet in any manner whatsoever. He got his nails clipped only once when the vet had to give him an anesthesia for something.....I don't remember what now.....and we took advantage and had his nails clipped then.
When Pat was gone to Iraq for 18 mo. we had custody of Chauncey. I took it as my goal to be able to clip his nails by the time Pat came home. It was a challenge for sure. But I did it. First we played games, Pits LOVE games and are so smart that they want them over and over, so it was no problem getting him to play touch the toes and high five. Then we progressed to massage my foot game. Tom would rub my feet and I would rub Chauncey's ....he began to love to have this done. Then I cut my toenails, and let him watch and play with the nail. Then it was his turn....at first he didn't think he was going to get his nail cut but when I cut the first one he wanted no more of that! But he quickly figured out that he wasn't getting his feet rubbed if he didn't let me clip A nail....only one to start. And if he got his clipped he would go get my clippers and give them to me to cut mine. Eventually we progressed to all 20 and dewclaws. Patrick was amazed when came home and I showed him. It took a whole year to get him to let me cut them all.....and my nails never looked so nice! LOL
It just takes a lot of time, patience and understanding your pet and WHY they like or dislike something.
