PostSubject: mural for my Mum and her garden   mural for my Mum and her garden EmptyThu 13 Sep 2012 - 18:10

My Mum asked me to paint a mural for her on a fence in her back garden. She gave me a list of things that she would like in the mural and I added a few more. My Mum grew up in the countryside and so she has a love of nature that you can see in what she chose for me to paint

I painted my neices Hannah and Julia - playing in the stream. It was a surprise for them.

I like the cottage

there is a pathway from the cottage to the style

The air balloon was my idea. My Dad is leaning out one side looking through binoculars and my Mum is leaning out of the other side with a butterfly net

this used to be a fish pond but recently grew into this. My Mum collects lots of stones from the beach and has been doing this for years. She loves stones as you can see

I was a bit horrified at doing a big mural like this for Mum but I enjoyed it actually. We were a good team with her bossing me around and me bossing her lol. It just grew really - first it was just land and sky and we discussed what would go where. My Mum wanted a goat in the pic but we both forgot about it until it was too late!! thanks for looking!!!! happyhappy Sarah, I love it! You gave your Mom a great view from her kitchen window. I love the scene, reminds me of my own childhood growing up in the country. The donkey is my favorite too! Your mother`s real garden is so sweet too with its abundance of rocks and stones. Your nieces are so cute and proud of their additions to your mural. That must have been so much fun working on it with your Mom! Thanks for sharing with us.

Thanks Sarah and Linda. The neices did do well. It was great to have them contribute. As you can imagine they didnt want to stop so Julia painted a pink hair band into her hair and some yellow buttercups. Hannah was intent on painting a pokemon somewhere in the pic but my Mum didnt go for that one. hmmmm. lol XXXX

How fun and colorful! Much better than looking at a blank fence. I like how it can be seen from the window!

The hot air balloon with your parents in it reminded me of a wallpaper mural that is in a room of my parents' house. It started out as my oldest sister's room and then my sister Becky got it after Amy married. It is set in the 18th century (love!) and it is a hot air balloon launching. There are two hot air balloons each with a man and woman and then a smaller balloon with just a man. On the ground is a crowd of people. One of the hot air balloon ladies looks similar to my oldest sister, so we always said that was her with her future husband. One of the other hot air balloon ladies has puffy curly hair which is like mine so we always said that was me with my future husband. We chose a couple on the ground to be my sister Becky and her husband and we said that the man in the balloon alone was our brother and his wife was on the ground because she was pregnant at the time and didn't want to go up in the balloon. It's funny/ironic, because my brother and sister-in-law have been married almost 11 years and have had 7 kids in that time, so she's been pregnant a good majority of the time I've known her!

I love your mural - it is so bright and because it is personal to your mom it is more precious. I love goats too - maybe you could paint another section of the fence and add one. The idea of looking out the house window and seeing all this is wonderful. Better yet, in winter when the garden is gone - the mural will be the promise of the next summer.

I just remembered - goats eat everything - so maybe it is a good thing that they are in a pen across the road!
