I don't normally ask but..............

I give up when it comes to my eyesight.

I was diagnosed about 2 years ago with very high eye pressures and about 15 months ago was diagnosed as having glaucoma and put onto nightly eyedrops.
Ayway I have been struggling lately (last month or so) with my eyes not being as "sharp" and clear as normal and it is barely 12 months since I got my new glasses.

Went to opthamologist today for my 3 monthly glaucoma checkup only to find I now have cataracts in both my eyes. So I am now going to be facing surgery in both eyes (one at a time) when the cataracts get too big for me to cope with. I depend on my eyes for all my closeup work that I so love doing (knitting, crocheting etc, and of course painting) so as my eyes deteriorate these will have to be placed on hold till after surgery, but while I can keep going I will!!!!!!

So now it is my daughter as well as Hubby with cataracts.......I have had them off my eyes earlier......But once they are done it is amazing...........and it is just inconvient.......until they are ready to remove..........but as you know I am here.....

Not fun to have cataracts! But at least it explains the loss of "sharpness" in vision. My dad had both his eyes done. His were the really fast to develop ones.

Thanks, since mine have only been discovered today and were not evident 3 months ago (although 3 months ago he only checked my pressures, today he did a full diabetic check of the eyes - at my request!!!) we won't know for sure if mine are the fast or slow ones till my next 3 monthly checkup. It is as if I "knew" to ask for a closer check.

Lyn that is sad news. I sure hope you get through your surgery really fast, I know when they mature you will have to have them removed and as you said, one at a time, so as long as you can work then that is comforting to know. I wish you well and hope your eyes clear up on their own but more than likely they want. I will send up a prayer and hope you take care of yourself. Can you use the magnifying lamp? It really helps me in the more tedious areas.

Thanks girls, this is one of the reasons I struggle so much with rooting because of my glaucoma and diabetes, and now this on top, oh well. As Rebecca said I can work until they get too bad. Specialist today said only thing for it is surgery but we have to wait till they are worse before they will operate. But it sure explains why I have been having more worse days than good lately with clarity of vision.
I appreciate everyone's prayers and well wishes, and I will keep you posted as they deteriorate and when they decide to operate.
Until then I am not going to let it stop me from doing the things I love most, and that is working with my hands. Had one bit of good come out of the day, I came home to a card from the PO, I had an International parcel to collect............. Will post in RR thread once I upload my pics to PB. But meanwhile am just cooking dinner so it will have to wait a short while.

Lyn, So sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Praying for the best outcome, that you can have surgery sooner than later.

Frustrating is the word, I wish you well when you have the op, in the meantime would
using a magnifying lamp help you at all ? just a thought, or do you already use one ?

Thanks girls, went to bed very "washed out" last night, but I think it has sunk in over nihgt, and I know I will keep going as if nothing is wrong for as long as I can and face surgery when it is required. I just know there is going to be some very frustrating times ahead of me before they can operate though. As I find something I cannot continue with I will stop it and come back to it once surgery is over. I do know I face much better eyesight in the future once the cataracts are removed so that is a bonus and something to look forward to. Who knows once that is done I might be great at rooting!!!!!! Cos damned if I can handle it at present

My mom had surgery on her cataracts and she was so thrilled when she had them done. She grew up being legally blind. She also has a problem where her eyes wiggle sideways all the time. She always needed glasses since the time she was a few months old. Anyway, years and years later, she was told she had to have cataract surgery. She was nervous about it but I went with her and I even got to watch the surgery from a viewing area above the surgery room. She was given a video of the surgery, even but refused to watch it until she had the other eye done. Well, after she had the second one done..she started dancing and singing and hollering.........she no longer needed glasses! For the first time in her entire life she no longer needed glasses. Few years later, she felt she needed reading glasses but it was such a small difference, the eye doctor told her to go to Walmart and buy a pair of readers. So, that's all she uses now are those cheap readers. She's now 83! So Lyn, while it sounds scary, the surgery really isn't difficult and you will love your new improved eyesight. Oh yes, and my mother does have Glaucoma and has had to use the drops for over 20 years now.
